GITANANDA ASHTANGHA YOGA

Yoga classes and retreats available with Sally Murphy (Yogacharini Deepika).  Trained in South India at the Ananda Ashram, she is now one of the few trained directly through this Parampari (lineage) who is actively teaching in the UK.

Rishiculture Ashtanga Yoga is based on the yoga sutras of Patanjali.

‘Ashtanga’ is Sanskrit for ‘eight-limbs’ on which authentic yoga is based:

  1.  Yama - Moral Observances
  2.  Niyama - Ethical Observances
  3.  Asana - Posture work
  4.  Pranayama - Breath/ energy control
  5.  Pratyahara - Sensory withdrawal
  6.  Dharana - Concentration
  7.  Dhyana - Meditation
  8.  Samadhi - Enlightenment

In most classes the first four stages will be worked on.  In some retreats more advanced practices are undertaken depending on the student’s experience.

Please see more details about Gitananda Yoga, the Parampari tradition, teachings and teacher training courses on the Ashram homepage.
